Dog Days of Summer 5K & Festival

August 20, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm

Calling all dogs and the people they love!  Dog Days of Summer transforms the softball fields at Lake Padden Park in Bellingham into a giant playground for dogs and their people.  Festivities will include a 5k fun run/walk for dogs and people followed by a FREE Family festival for all animal lovers.  The Dog Days of Summer festival will feature over 45 pet related vendors, interactive doggie games and contests, an animal caricaturist, canine demonstrations, kids area, a vegetarian food court -and much more!


9:00 am – 5k Fun Run & Walk Registration (online registration available prior to the event)

10:00 am – 5k Fun Run/Walk Begins – leashed dogs and their people run or walk the trail around Lake Padden

10:30 am – 3:00 pm – Dog Days of Summer Festival! Interactive dog games and contests will take place all day.  Prizes and giveaways will be awarded to all four legged participants.  

Pre-Registration for our 5K is now OPEN!!  Registration for the 5K will also be available on location the morning of the event.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in men’s, women’s, over 60 and kids divisions.  Stick around after the run/walk and enjoy this FREE Family Friendly Festival for dogs and the people who love them.  See below for online registration options or download your registration form here.

Proceeds from the Dog Days of Summer event benefit the Whatcom Humane Society.  Last year, WHS provided comfort and care for over 4,000 domestic and native wild animals throughout Whatcom County.  As an open-admission shelter, WHS turns no animal away, regardless of the animal’s breed, medical or physical condition, age or temperament. WHS provides 24 hour a day animal control and rescue services for Whatcom County.  The shelter operates a wildlife rehabilitation center as well as a farm facility for horses and other livestock. WHS offers a number of ongoing community outreach and humane education programs throughout Whatcom County including a low-cost spay/neuter program and pet food bank.

Over 45 animal friendly vendors will offer products for sale, giveaways, and information. Participants will include animal rescue groups, pet supply vendors, animal photographers, animal communicators, animal themed artists/jewelry, pet groomers, local pet related businesses, positive, reward based dog trainers.  Stay tuned for a list of this year’s paw-some vendors!

Please Note: All food vendors at the DDS event must only serve vegetarian food. Only dog trainers that use positive, reward based dog training will be offered vendor spaces at the DDS event. Only pet themed businesses and event sponsors will be offered vendor spaced at the DDS event.  Thank you!
