The Whatcom Humane Society understands that in these difficult economic times it can be difficult to provide care for companion animals. The WHS Pet Food Bank provides temporary assistance by providing pet food for families in need.
Pet food is distributed at no charge to pet owners who qualify and participate in the program.
Pet food is available and distributed at the Whatcom Humane Society during regular hours of operation: Wednesday – Saturday, 10am – 6pm; Sunday – Monday, 11am – 5pm. Pet food is not available on Tuesdays or Major Holidays when the shelter is closed.
WHS Food Bank Requirements
- Owner must provide photo identification with full name and address.
- Food pickup is only allowed once a month regardless of type or amount of food received.
- All animals in the household must be spayed or neutered. If animals are already spayed or neutered, proof must be provided. If animals are not spayed or neutered, WHS can help – click here for information on the WHS low-cost spay/neuter assistance program (SNAP) or here for WeSNIP, Whatcom Educational Spay Neuter Impact Program.
Pet food that is distributed through the WHS Pet Food Bank Program is food that has been generously donated; therefore WHS cannot guarantee that food will always be available. You must be prepared to provide appropriate care for your pet during these times.
Pet food donations for the program are always welcome. Donations can be dropped off at WHS during regular hours of operation. WHS will accept donations of any brand of pet food – dry or wet food as well as donations of litter, treats and toys. Open bags of food can be accepted. Donations of small animal food and supplies are also needed for distribution.
